Training with Roo has been such an amazing journey! Being someone who's in the gym 24/7 & having had trainers in the past, I honestly didn't know if I could learn anything else. With Roo, I've learned that you learn something new everyday! He's one of the most knowledgeable well rounded trainers I've ever had the pleasure of working with! Every day we train I know there will be something I can take away from our session and incorporate in my daily routines. It's a great feeling knowing that not only have I walked away feeling the good kind of sore but that I'm actually excited to come back & endure that same pain day in & day out. As one of his clients I've gotten to know & see some of the other individuals he trains. I can't express how wonderful it is to see such diversity in workouts geared towards these individuals who are vast in age gaps, some with medical conditions & some like me who train for fitness shows. Since working out with Roo, he's been able to help me stay on track physically & mentally. His weekly checkups & enduring pep talks show his true passion for personal training, not only for ones physical appearance but the strength & growth of ones mind & self-esteem. RooFormance (and Roo) has been absolutely incredible in my weight loss journey. Unlike his other clients, I currently live in Minnesota. Roo sends me workout plans, supplements, and meal plans a few times a year. He checks up on me almost daily through text message, and the occasional phone call. He helps me change up my workouts and meals if I’m in a plateau, or battling an injury. I’ve flown out to San Diego almost every year to see my old friend. During our time together Roo teaches me new workouts, corrects any mistakes with my form, and pushes me to better myself in and out of the gym. Knowing your trainer is doing the exercises he’s telling you to do is a wonderful sign that your trainer believes in what they’re doing, and what they’re teaching. Roo would never make someone do something he hasn’t done himself. His clients also sing his praises when I visit. All of them have wonderful stories of why they’re working out, and why they continue to do so. Roo isn’t just a trainer, and they’re not just his clients. He has a personal relationship with everyone who chooses to workout at his gym. His boot-camp sessions are filled with sweat, pain, a few vulgarities, and most importantly; smiles and laughter. Roo’s clients are proud to represent his brand in and out of the gym. Since I started working out over 4 years ago, Roo has been instrumental in getting my health back on track. I’ve lost over 60 pounds, and added more muscle definition, along with mass. Roo has shaped my workouts to fit my personal goals. I have more strength, energy, and stamina. My mental health has improved with better exercise and diet habits. I’m a completely different person, and my friends and family constantly compliment how much I’ve achieved over the last 4 years. I had shoulder surgery 3 years ago in an attempt to get some mobility back in a frozen shoulder from an old injury. Following surgery, I had a full year of physical therapy, only to achieve 65% mobility. I tried acupuncture, hot yoga and more P.T. but I started to believe I would never get full movement back. A year and a half ago I met “Roo” Shepherdson and started his circuit classes, followed by some one on one classes. After explaining my shoulder problem to him, he came up with a series of exercises that would isolate individual muscles in my shoulder. Within just a few months I began to see some real improvement. I am happy to say that I now have full rotation in my shoulder now and am stronger than I was before my injury. I cannot recommend him enough as a skilled and knowledgeable personal trainer.

When I first met Roo I was 265 pounds and I did not know anything about nutrition and very little about exercise. Going to the gym was intimidating. Roo immediately put me at ease and made me feel comfortable in the gym. He thoroughly assessed where I was at and created a workout plan for me that was appropriate and effective. He made working out fun. I began to look forward to my sessions with Roo each week. In a little over a year I was able to lose over 100 pounds working with Roo. I was so impressed with Roo’s knowledge and attention to form that I entrusted him with the training of my 11-year-old son who, too, was overweight. My son immediately took to Roo and ended up losing over 30 pounds. Roo goes above and beyond for not only us, but every one of his clients. He truly cares about the people he works with and wants them to be the best and healthiest version of themselves they can be. He has become more than just our trainer. He is part of our family.
